Build or buy
Model the assets that make your game unique. Buy the repetition when it does not.
The useful comparison is not asset price against zero. It is asset price against the hours of modeling, UV work, materials, export, prefab setup, testing, and revisions you would otherwise spend.
Choose by leverage
There are good reasons to build and good reasons to buy
Model it
The object is part of your game identity
Create it yourself when silhouette, animation needs, interaction requirements, or story importance make the asset genuinely specific to your game.
- Hero objects
- Signature architecture
- Mechanic-specific props
Buy it
The work is necessary but not distinctive
A focused pack can remove repetitive production from furniture, cookware, signs, clutter, plants, and other supporting content.
- Set dressing
- Background props
- Repeated environment vocabulary
Mix both
Use purchased support around custom focal assets
This is often the strongest tradeoff. Keep the unique object custom and let a compatible pack handle the surrounding production load.
The pack only saves time when it already fits the art direction.
A cheap asset that forces material rework, scaling fixes, style correction, and replacement meshes is not a shortcut. Check the screenshots, technical details, and actual scope before treating the purchase as saved labor.
Focused packs are often easier to evaluate than giant collections because you can see exactly which scene problem they are meant to solve.
